The clean up crew (CUC) within your tank are a vital part of any setup. They tank care of your tank in ways you can’t as each member performs a service to clean up after your fish and corals. Often, each member of your clean up crew has its own little niche that no other member of your community performs and let’s face it, those little critters can reach places within your tank that you just can’t get to without destroying your aquascape.
Some aquarists believe the clean up crew to be an unnecessary addition to your filtrations bio-load, and this should be considered when adding them to your tank. If you plan to heavily stock your tank then you may not have the capacity to add a massive amount of clean up crew, but on the other hand, without them, you will find yourself having to do more of the work yourself.
Your CUC will typically consist of a mixture of the following:
- Crabs
- Snails
- Shrimp
- Starfish
- Worms
- Pods
- Urchins
